Well, it looks rather a purplish-grey in the picture. I mean, you'd not call it a tan-ish grey, right? Maybe the name refers to when all the surrounding ground is some other color, a lone slightly purplish rock stands out & seems special.
I just tried my first sample of it and what I see on my monitor here is very close to what I see on my paper. I think if you compare it with a neutral grey ink you will definitely see the purple.
It is a very black purple. I would have designated it a grey though :/ Purty all the same though :)
